Dr Adrian James said he believes doctors will soon turn to “social prescribing” alongside therapy and medication ‑ and reports that some already have. Patients can benefit by “nurturing a living thing and giving life some meaning”, Dr James said.

He was supporting ITV’s Love Your Garden co-host David Domoney, whose Chelsea Flower Show exhibit featured plants that benefit wellbeing ‑ and who said there is a “symbiotic relationship between humans and plants inside the home”.
